OOH Supervisors

All OOH Clincial Supervisors must have done the above course before they can supervise. The only exceptions to this rule are currently approved trainers and those who have started the intending trainers course.

Once the course has been completed, the intending OOH supervisor must formally apply to be appointed. The application must include some reflection on the course and a PDP for the role. Appointment is for a maximum period of 5 years.

We have introduced a new system of reaccreditation for the Supervisor role.  Please see the following document. Letter to OOH CS

Six months before appointment expires, the OOH supervisor is invited to reapply and expected to supply trainee feedback and evidence of CPD for the role.

OOH Supervisor tasks

The key tasks are to provide effective clinical supervision, ensuring patient and trainee safety and provide constructive feedback (written and oral) to trainees. Any significant concerns about a trainee must be shared with the GP training programme. The best way to do this is to email the programme manager. If a single problem has arisen, such as late arrival for a shift, please document this on the OOH form and email the trainer. There are links to the training programmes on this website. Your provider should have the email address of the trainer but this can also be obtained from the programme.

The supervisor creates a record of the shift (OOH1) which the GPStR takes back to the trainer, for debriefing and for recording in the educational record of that GPStR. If the supervisor is working remotely then this form must be emailed to the trainee.
