ST3 Trainees - Appraisal and Revalidation

Appraisal and Revalidation for ST3 Trainees

Annual appraisal is a contractual requirement for all qualified GPs, and the RCGP Curriculum states that GPs in training should have the opportunity to gain some experience of the appraisal process.

We recommend that all trainees have a 'practice appraisal' at the end of their ST3 placement after they have been through the final ARCP process.  This allows you to become familiar with the requirements of the appraisal process and to produce a PDP to guide you in your first year as a qualified GP.  The appraisal is carried out by your trainer and not your educational supervisor.

We recommend you use the Medical Appraisal Guide (MAG) Form to prepare for this appraisal.  Full details of how you and your trainer should prepare for this end of ST3 appraisal are found in the two guidance documents below:

Document 4.1 - Appraisal guide for ST3 trainees

Document 4.2 - Trainer guide to appraisal for ST3 trainees

Document 4.3 - Guidance for date of first appraisal for new entrants to the Performers' List at the end of their GP training scheme
