Career Breaks

Information on Career Breaks

Many GPs consider taking a planned break from UK practice to travel or work abroad, and others will be absent for periods of time on maternity or sick leave. This document provides detailed advice on planning a career break, linked to Performers’ list regulations and the requirements of appraisal/revalidation. The most important point to be aware of is that most GPs who take a break from UK practice for more than 2 years will be required to leave the NPL and take part in the Induction and Refresher Scheme before they can resume work in the UK.

For further information, read our Career Break Guidance or email our Head of Continuing Practice, Dr Iain Lawther.

Alternatively, see the Induction and Refresher Scheme page which may be helpful.
