Sharon Shenfine

Director of Learner Support and Faculty Development / Emergency Medicine Consultant / CertMedEd

Sharon had worked as an Emergency Medicine consultant in the Northern Region for over ten years.

She has been actively involved in postgraduate education during this time both within her own Trust and on a regional basis, having been a Training Programme Director for the Acute Care Common Stem Programme.

Sharon is Director of Learner Support and Faculty Development in addition to developing and delivering training packages to both trainees and trainers across HEE-NE in a Clinical Trainer role. She is an ILM level 5 qualified coach and provides coaching to our regions trainees as part of the Educational Support Service

Alyson Williamson

Senior Business Manager / Cert Med Ed (ESME) PGCert Clin Leadership

Alyson manages the regional Trainee Support Service and takes the lead in designing and delivering the faculty development programme to supervisors and trainees.  She has previously held roles at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School and the Royal College of Physicians of London (JCHMT). This has given her wide ranging experience of providing targeted support to trainees both in Trusts and regionally, coaching all grades of medical staff and supporting trainers to tackle training concerns including undermining behaviours.   She is a qualified Healthcare Leadership Model 360 feedback facilitator and MBTI Step 1 Facilitator.  She has presented at national and international medical education events and published commissioned educational modules for BMJ e-learning.

Hazel Simpson

Programme Support Manager / Educational Trainer / CertEd

Hazel has 20 years experience in developing and delivering bespoke quality leadership and management training within the NHS and academia.  As a freelance training consultant, she has worked extensively with five regional universities teaching all grades of staff, management and senior academics. Together with her senior management experience she has designed and embedded educational leadership programmes on a national level, providing strategic direction and continuing professional development to those accountable for the supervision and development of others.  She has provided coaching to all tiers of management and academics on wide-ranging issues effecting performance.  She is now applying her expertise to medical education and supporting both trainees and trainers in engendering trainee progression. 

Kulvy Fedriche

Programme Support Coordinator / PG Cert Management Studies / PG Dip Management Studies

Kulvy is responsible for the operational management of the education section but also supports the education faculty in the delivery of training to doctors and trainees from the north east & north Cumbria. She has worked within the training and education field for approximately 9 years, previously as Specialty Programme Coordinator for Academics, Trauma and Orthopedics, Urology and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.  She brings with her a wealth of knowledge from working in both the public and private sectors. 

Linda Maxwell

Programme Support Administrator / Assoc. Member of CIPD

Linda is responsible for the administration to the Team and the organisatation of events across the North East.  She also assists with the administration to The Supported Return to Training Programme (SuppoRTT) for HEE NE.

She has worked within HR and Medical Staffing  for the NHS for 15 years both for Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust and the Lead Employer Trust and has a wealth of knowledge about Modernising Medical Careers.

John Davison

Clinical Trainer / Consultant Physician and Geriatrician / MBBS PhD FRCP(Edin) CertMedEd

John develops and facilitates workshops in all aspects of clinical and educational supervision of postgraduate trainees for all speciality training programmes in medicine and dentistry. As a clinical and educational supervisor for over ten years, he has significant interest and responsibilities in postgraduate education, particularly educational support for clinical and educational supervisors of trainees with differing needs. He has served as Assistant Director of Medical Education at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for five years, supporting delivery and quality assurance of postgraduate training in over 70 specialty training programmes.

Sohom Maitra

Deputy SuppoRTT Clinical Lead/Emergency Medicine Consultant//MBBS MRCS PgC(Med Ed) MAcadMed FHEA FRCEM

Sohom is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine & Major Trauma at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. 

He is an educational and clinical supervisor to Foundation, Core and Higher trainees and has been a postgraduate medical education and Foundation programme tutor at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2014. He has recently completed a 2 year term (2016-2018) as his Trust’s Guardian of Safe Working Hours. He is Vice-Chair and Chair-Elect of the North East Regional Board of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.

He is Training Programme Director for ACCS Training and Lead TPD for Doctors with Differing Needs for Emergency & Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine training.  He is Deputy Lead for The Supported Return to Training Programme (SuppoRTT) for HEE NE.

Sohom’s main focus area is professional development and support for trainees and trainers alike, in all aspects of their respective educational milestone achievement. Particular focus is aligned to emphasising the challenges, solutions and waypoints in ‘differing need’ doctor training experience, support and management.

Matt Dickson

Leadership and Management Fellow / Respiratory ST6 / MBChB (Hons) MRCP

Matt is taking a year out-of-programme from Respiratory/GIM training to take up a role as a Leadership and Management Fellow at HEE NE.  He has been working with the Learner Support and Faculty Development Team to create new teaching materials on areas such as "Handover",  "Bedside Teaching" and "Feedback Skills for Workplace Based Assessments."  He is also working on the "Supported Return to Training" project, to help create policies, guidance and resources to better support doctors in training who return back into programme from a period out.  Matt is involved in co-chairing the Trainee Executive Forum, a representative body that feeds back to the Dean's Management Team on areas of trainee concern. 

Olubunmi Arogunmati

Leadership and Management Fellow  (Clinical Informatics) / Psychiatry CT3 / MBBS, MPH, PGDip PH

Bunmi is an international Medical Graduate with interests in Public Mental Health, Psychotherapy, Intellectual Disability, Old Age Psychiatry, Sexual and Reproductve Health and Public Health.  He is focued on utilising transferable skills from previous roles in his project for the year which is in clinical informatics (utilising technology to better support doctors in training, inform the national agenda, support regional workforce development as well as in a local Global Digital Exemplar Project.)  Bunmi is involved in co-chairing the Trainee Executive Forum, a representative body that feeds back to the Dean's Management Team on areas of trainee concern.  He moved to the North East as part of his core training in psychiatry programme and views the region as a great place to learn, live and work.

Heidi Stelling

Leadership and Management Fellow/O&G ST5/MBBS MRCOG MMedEd

Heidi is taking a year out-of-programme from Specialty Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to take up a role as a Leadership and Management Fellow at HEE NE.  She is interested in training wellbeing and improving the working lives of junior doctors. See has spent time investigating factors impacting upon trainees decision to leave training and also improvements that can be made to Educational Supervision.  Heidi is involved in co-chairing the Trainee Executive Forum, a representative body that feeds back to the Dean's Management Team on areas of trainee concern. Heidi is a Northern girl born, bred and educated and passionate about promoting the North East as a great place to live and train.
