Foundation Training for Dental Therapists is aimed to support recently qualified Dental Therapists (DT) during their transition into the Primary Dental Care workforce.
Dental Therapist Foundation Training (Pilot 2018)
Here in the North East and North Cumbria we have appointed a number of Dental Therapist training posts for one year commencing 1 September 2018. The pilot requires the appointed Dental Therapist to work three days per week in the same NHS Primary Care Dental Practice or Salaried Services allocated by Health Education England. Foundation Dental Therapists (FDT) are required to attend 12 study days during the year which will be held predominately at our dedicated training facility Bourne House, Durham and these will take place on Wednesdays whenever possible. Study days will be linked to the Foundation Training for Dental Therapists curriculum and will be a mix of theory and clinical teaching. In addition to attending the study days, Trainees will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence and, upon successful completion of the programme will receive a certificate of completion.

Dental Therapist Foundation Training 2019
Following the success of the Dental Therapist Foundation Training 2018 pilot, we have a minimum of eight Dental Therapist training posts for one year commencing 1 September 2019. The post requires the appointed Dental Therapist to work three days per week (one of which must be a Monday), in the same NHS Primary Care Dental Practice or Salaried Services allocated by Health Education England. Foundation Dental Therapists (FDT) are required to attend 15 study days during the year which will be held predominately at our dedicated training facility Bourne House, Durham and these will take place on Mondays whenever possible. Study days will be linked to the Foundation Training for Dental Therapists curriculum and will be a mix of theory and clinical teaching. In addition to attending the study days, Trainees will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence and, upon successful completion of the programme will receive a certificate of completion.
