Working across the north east and north Cumbria on behalf of Health Education England, the Faculty of Patient Safety sets the strategic direction in delivering the Patient Safety Agenda, with the focus on three main work streams: Simulation, Human Factors, Learning from clinical incidents and never events. The Faculty aims to deliver education based on the needs of our patients, as well as curriculum requirements in order to improve local patient care eg sepsis and acute kidney injury. The Faculty works collaboratively with clinical colleagues from all professional groups and university colleagues in a multi-disciplinary, multi professional way to recognise all factors affecting patient safety. The Faculty looks to develop and deliver improvements to education, patient care, fostering innovation and sharing best practice. The Faculty of Patient Safety was established in 2015 and is chaired by Mr Jon Hanson.
Reporting into the Faculty are two multi-professional region wide networks for both Simulation and Human Factors. These networks share best practice and resources where appropriate. A key responsibility is to minimise duplication and use regional resources in a cost effective manner.
Simulation
The Simulation Steering Group was established in 2015 as part of the Faculty of Patient Safety with the aim of setting strategic and operational direction to assure the deliverance of high quality simulation-based education and multi-professional collaboration in alignment with the Patient Safety agenda within the region. This steering group comprises representation from the region's NHS organisations, postgraduate schools and local education providers. The Simulation Steering Group is chaired by Dr Kate Williamson.
Human Factors
The Human Factors Steering Group was established in 2015 as part of the Faculty of Patient Safety. Its aim is to support the development and delivery of Human Factors training to healthcare staff in the north east and Cumbria. This steering group comprises representation from the region's NHS organisations, postgraduate schools and local education providers. The Human Factors Steering Group is chaired by Dr Dave Murray.
