Extended Integrated Training Posts

Extended Integrated Training Posts

We are very pleased to be able to offer several unique extended Integrated Training Posts across a range of interests to our trainees.

These posts are 12 months in length and are split between General Practice and a speciality. The posts will extend training by 6 months from 3 years to 3½ years.

The posts give trainees the opportunity to develop interests and skills which serve as an excellent foundation post CCT either directly, e.g. by active involvement in teaching or commissioning or indirectly by using the additional generic skills you have developed, e.g. team-working in projects, developing ideas or leadership.

Research Posts

There are up to 4 Research posts each year available to trainees at the end of ST1 or ST2, which may be based at Newcastle and, Sunderland universities.

During the first year you will choose academic modules, which allow you to complete a Postgraduate qualification in academic research to equip you with research skills.

The format of this post may vary for trainees who have previous academic experience and qualifications.

Trainees who enjoy this year AND continue to demonstrate academic potential can apply to continue their academic interest by moving into the Advanced Academic ITP. This is a further 12 months split between GP and academia during which you can undertake further postgraduate training leading to a Masters qualification. There will be further opportunities to undertake your own projects during this time.

Further extensions to research / GP programme are accessible for trainees who are working towards a PhD. This is a unique opportunity available in HEE only and does not exist elsewhere nationally.
