The North East office of Health Education England provides a number of Global Health Fellowships for trainees. These posts include our facilitation, through our partner Africa Health Placements (AHP), one year Out of Programme clinical posts, based in rural community hospitals in South Africa.
Africa Health Placements is an organisation with a mission: to support and enhance healthcare systems in Africa, by finding, placing and retaining the right people for the job. www.ahp.org.za.
Applications for Global Health Fellowships can be made after successful recruitment to GP training in the north east and north Cumbria through the National Recruitment process. The OOP posts in South Africa will be undertaken at the end of ST2 and trainees will then return to complete their pre-arranged ST3.
Full support is given to all Global Health Fellows prior to departure, during the 12 months away, and upon your return back to the UK. Opportunities will exist to undertake a Diploma in Tropical Medicine.
This is an opportunity for GP Specialty Trainees to gain experience that will both compliment their training and lead some individuals to further develop a career incorporating global health.
